Rayshawn,
Do you think he writes the speech himself, or has a speech writer and/or contributes to or oversees the writing process? If you were a candidate, or President-elect, who would you want to help you write your speech? What qualities of a writer would you look for?

I believe that the Barack Obama acceptance speech was a good speech because it displayed his true character. It showed that he is passionate about the changes he can make for America. It was very touching to me especially being black to see a black man elected president. In Obama's acceptance speech, he mentioned a woman named Ann Nixon Cooper who voted in the election. Why is she important? She is 106 years old. If I live as long as she did, I want to see progress in our economy, alliances with foreign nations, and many more issues that we face today. If everyone does their part, I believe that our country/world could change for the better. I hope that Barack Obama does his part and doesn't just talk about the changes he can make but do it. If so, this would make me proud to be an American. The strategies Obama employs not only a tone of hope, but a tone of inspiration in his audience is by stating that America could overcome by using repetition by sayng, "Yes we can." He also uses many illusions by stating, " a government of the people, by the people, and for the people has not yet perished from the Earth." To conclude my feelings towards Obama's speech is that it is inspiring and gives Americans a sign of hope for changes now and for many generations to come.

i think that the speech is influencing, the way he speaks encourages people and by encouraging people you make them believe that its all possible whether it is or not (hopefully it is). in his speech he gets to the point of that the color of your skin does not matter it is whats inside

I KANDRA BARRETT I think that our newly elected president gave a wonderful speech to the "proud" people of the United States of America. To me his speech was very meaningful and had the world full of different emotions;he made several points and explained with many examples.....Barack is half black which means he made history...people used to always say blacks will never achieve something so big...but now look!!As i grow old i will like to see a change in the economy:money,i will like to see less crime, also i will like to see less of a struggle for parenting.Barack Obama used a type of speech known as diction. He is very smart and has a high level in vocabulary.I believe he will make our country the best its been since Pres.Clinton.Our new President of the United States Of America will make a change in our country.

2. If i was 106 years old i would hope to have seen a LOT of change in the world. And i also hope that the change will be good. In ways like universal health care, in the united states. In the world id definitely like to see the genocide in Africa stop. and the other small really poor countries get help with clean water, schools, and just other regular necessities that some of us take for granted.

1. I think this speech was very well said by Barack Obama. I think that just the way he sounds when he speaks is very powerful and he could say almost anything and people would listen. My feelings about this speech was that he made me believe in what he was saying. He made me believe that "Yes We Can" make a difference in our country for the better.

2.When I am 105 years old I hope to see much change. I hope to see many more black presidents and that every next president that we have is a good one. I would also like to see Americans come together and help our country get better. When I am 106 I hope to see that has come ture and that other countries around the world envy us even more because the people in our country can come together and make a difference.

I think Obama is going to be a great president. His speach was very well written and he really caught the audiences attention. He made every feel as if he knew them all personally and i believe because the attitude he has towards the United States, within this term and possibly the next term in office he is going to do great things.

Ellie-
1) I feel that Obama is a very good speaker and he is very persuasive even if he wasn't the one who wrote the speech.
2) I hope that if I were to be alive at the age of 106 years old I would hope that many things have changed. I would like to see the economy thriving again. I want the United States to continue to be a world power. I want people to stop juding people by the clothes they wear, the color of their skin, the the gender of people they like, etc. But even though I want these things to happen, the chances of it acutally happening are slim to none.
3) Obama knows what the people want to hear. He tells them that there will be change because this is what the people want. Also when he is speaking he makes sure he sounds concerned to make the people think that he truly cares. I'm not trying to say that he doesn't care but I think that this will help persuade the people to like him.

1)I think that President-Elect Obama's speech was very inspiring. He speaks with such eloquence and he is very convincing. I believe and I hope and pray that he will be a good president. He seem's to have the people at heart. He is a very family oriented person and I feel like he will do all he can, with the help and cooperation of the American people of course, to turn this country back around.
2)If I am blessed to live until the age of 106, I hope to see even more diversity and change for the better in our country. I hope that America regains the respect we used o have as he best country to live in. I would also like to see less partisanship and more working together because its the only way to make progress.
3)He creates a mood of inspiration by using repetition in his speeches. The inspirational phrase he is probably known best for is, "Yes we can!" With this, he gives the American people hope. He lets them know that anything is possible. In his speech, he reminds the doubters that didn't believe that that night was proof that anything is indeed possible.

I think that Barack Obama's Speech was very touching, In my opinion i think hes going to be a great president. He has alot of "changes" he plans on making hopefully he keeps his word. He has great enthusiasm that keeps us listening. He has shown that he cares about everyone and hopes to grant all of our wishes.
-When i am 106 years old i want this country to be perfect. Which is going to be a long time from now so i hope he had made some progress.it is going to be a tough road ahead no doubt about it.
-In his speech he keeps the audience listening. He didnt ever go on about something tha bored the audience. He didnt just tell the pepople what they wanted to hear.He let them know that he is there for them and he will do anything in his power to accomplish his goals he plans on achieving.

For extra credit, do a google search using the words "Obama" and "american dream" (phrase in quotes), and report back on what information, types of articles you find.

One of the articles I came up with said that Obama embodies the American dream. Another article says that first time voters look to Obama to restore the American dream. It seems that a lot of people really hope that Obama will bring change to our country. I just hope they understand that it's definitely not going to happen over night. It will also never happen without the help of the American people. Tearing him down, and doubting him all the time will not help anyone or anything.
