First we will watch a segment of the movie and then take our quiz--you can use the book/notes.


Tomorrow we will begin working on the essay (Wed-Fri)

For most of (if not all of) this week we will be working on the practice AP exam (diagnostic test). This will be critical to your overall success in this class so please take it seriously. It will count as a test grade on multiple choice (curved) and on essays (corrections will be available). Please take it seriously and even though the actual exam is timed, we should take our time on this one.

Remember, the essay for The Glass Castle is due today as well. If you emailed it, please fill out a slip.

Last day to work on your essay in class

Today we will:
*You have about 20 min. to "wrap up" any writing that remains (if you need it) before I come around for conferencing.
*Then, you will have the rest of class to make your final edits and hopefully print if you are done.
*If you're not done, you can have until Monday to turn in your final draft (or you will lose points).

Remember:
To use transitions!
To cite all sources you used!
Make sure your thesis is clear!

Outline for the essay

Intro: attention grabber (question/quote/stat)

Thesis—point you’re proving (“free-range” parenting is helpful because….

Overview of your main arguments (why you think it’s good or bad—topics of body par.)

Body 1: Topic sentence—tells us first argument

Evidence/explain (2-3)

Body 2: Transition/Topic sentence argument 2

Body 3-4: ?

Counterclaim/rebuttal

Conclusion

Logical Fallacies Worksheets (ONE is NOT a quiz just a worksheet)

1. Today we will: finish the quiz if needed
2. Work with 1 partner on the logical fallacies assignment (yes we will then "fishbowl")

Remember the rules:

*Inner-circle speaks one at a time (pass the helmet)
*Outer circle listens and takes notes (may ask questions if called upon)
*Then we switch

Quiz #2 (40 pts./20 pts. per question)

1. Choose any 3 quotes from the book (one must be from each of the three sections I, II, and III)
*Copy the quote/speaker
*Explain what is happening in the book at the time
*Explain what  it tells us about the character (or another character--if so who?)
*Analyze its significance in the text (why do you feel it was important to your full understanding of Jeannette's story?)

2. Explain the significance, of the title The Glass Castle using the book as support.
*What does it symbolize in the story and Jeannette's narrative (what it represents for the family, what she learns, how she changes her views, etc.)
